Pokey Hole presents an Evening of Music

On Wednesday 22nd May Pokey Hole Productions will present an evening of music in aid of Jessie’s Fund, at Netherseal Church in Derbyshire. The music will consist of a selection of Soft Rock/Jazz/Classical with expected featured artists:

Tamworth Bluegrass Festival

Tamworth Bluegrass Festival, 14th to 16th June 2013, will be raising money for Jessie’s Fund. The festival will be at Bolehall Manor Club, Amington Rd, Tamworth, B77 3LH. Tickets for the whole weekend, including camping, are £35, and tickets are also available for parts of the weekend. Bands: Down County Boys, Foxchase Bluegrass, Hogranch, Le Sac En Plastique, Motor City String Band, Snakes, Soft Option Appalachian dance troupe), Stained Glass Bluegrass Band, The Amigos, The Grass Snakes, The Old Grey Dogs, and The Anker Valley Boys.

St Peter’s Arts Week, Belsize Park

St Peter’s Church is hosting an Arts Week from 22nd June, and Jessie’s Fund is one of the three lucky charities which is going to benefit. The festival will be opened by David Mitchell and Victoria Coren, who were married at the church. There’ll be plenty of music during the week, along with poetry, dance, arts and crafts, and various workshops for all ages.

A Glorious Celebration of British Music

On 9th June the combined choirs of Burton Joyce Choral Society, Nottingham Hospitals’ Choir, Ruddington and District Choral Society with the Djanogly Community Orchestra present an exciting programme of Elgar, Walton, Handel, Parry and Beethoven’s Choral Fantasia with amazing young pianist Isata Kanneh-Mason. The concert will be supporting the work of Jessie’s Fund and Nottingham Youth Orchestra.

Three Countries 2013 Cycle Event

Over the spring bank holiday (Friday 24^th May to Wednesday 29^th May) Jessie’s Fund will be taking a 22-strong team on our own ‘Tour of Flanders’. Starting from Hull, we’ll take the overnight ferry and land in Zeebrugge the next morning. We’re indebted to Sukhdev Singh, Regional Director of Imperial Commercials DAF/Nissan, Hedon Road, Hull, who gets us off to a good start by allowing us to park our cars, free of charge, on their compound. From Zeebrugge we’ll ride up the coast into the Netherlands and then head inland to the beautiful city of Gent. Day two sees us riding from Gent via some of Flanders route to the town of Ypres (Ieper). The third day is spent riding to Bruges via the coast towns of Dunkirk and Oostende. We’ll have the evening and much of day four to sightsee, until the afternoon, when we’ll make our way to Zeebrugge for the ferry home.

Everyone’s going to have a great time, meeting new friends and setting themselves quite a personal challenge. It won’t be easy, but it will be rewarding. But the main point, of course, will be to raise much needed funds for Jessie’s Fund. The goal is to raise £10,000: Jessie’s Fund founders (Jessie’s parents) are taking part and hoping to raise £2,000 of that. Please help in any way you can: www.justgiving.com/lesleyandalan

Aske Chapel presentation

Jessie’s Fund was the 2012 Charity of the Year at Aske Chapel, on the beautiful Aske Estate, near Richmond, North Yorkshire. Though the small chapel has an equally small congregation, it is an incredibly generous one, raising over £1,500 for us. Lord Zetland presented Lesley Schatzberger with a cheque at a service led by Rev. Peter Adamson. Thanks to all, and particularly to Fionagh Bennet, the excellent organist at the chapel, for putting Jessie’s Fund forward for support.

Handicrafts for Jessie’s Fund

Jackie Parker has been busy with her crochet hook, making insect and flower brooches, hats, and scarves amongst other things, and donating all profits to Jessie’s Fund. She has been selling her handicrafts with the help of Elysian Treasures, in Hythe, Kent, and sending us the proceeds. Her daughter, Anna Abba, is also very creative, making jewellery from recycled objects, and selling them for Jessie’s Fund. You can see her lovely jewellery here. Thank you, Jackie and Anna.

The Pokey Hole chooses Jessie’s Fund

The Pokey Hole is a live music club based at The Miners Welfare Club in the village of Moira, South Derbyshire. They offer great live music on a monthly basis featuring many well known artists as well as emerging new talent. Last year they raised £1600 for Jessie’s Fund, and we’re delighted that we are their chosen charity for another two years. Find out about’s what’s on at The Pokey Hole.

Massed celli for Caroline

Caroline Bosanquet was a widely respected cello teacher in Cambridge. Her large collection of sheet music and music paraphernalia was sold in aid of Jessie’s Fund recently, as were some of her bows. The total raised so far is almost £4,000, and now there’s to be a findraising concert in her memory, given by her friends and pupils. We’re touched at such generous support coming our way.

The event will take place on on Sunday 30 June at St Faith’s School, Trumpington Rd Cambridge, with cellists coming together to rehearse from 1pm and a concert at 5.15pm. If you’re a cello enthusiast you have to be there!
