Johanna had just arrived at the hospice for respite care after a stay in hospital, and was very tired and miserable. Her mum wheeled her into the music room, where Catherine, the music therapist, greeted her warmly. The playing started, and within minutes Johanna seemed to have been injected with a new burst of life: she played a large drum, a maraca, and most of all enjoyed playing on the beautiful lyre. After her music therapy sessions she seemed a completely different girl from the sad child who had entered the room less than an hour before.
